DU appeals against HC order on DUCSU poll

DUCSUDhaka University authorities filed and appeal plea against the High Court verdict directing to conduct the elections of Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) within six months.
The writ petitioner lawyer Manzil Morshed told this to reporters on Monday.
On Jan this year, the HC ordered to hold DUCSU elections within six months.
The writ petition said, on 27 May 1998, in a meeting chaired by the then Vice-Chancellor Professor AK Azad Chowdhury of the university, decision was made to hold DUCSU elections every year.
If the next three months are not held, the existing committee could continue to work. After the decision, DUCSU was dissolved.
According to the DU sources, DUCSU was established in 1924. Till 1953, DUCSU VPs were selected.
The first DUCSU election was held in 1953.
Election to the DUCSU has long been a demand from the DU students since the last time DUCSU polls took place on Jun 6, 1990
DUCSU elections were held for seven times between 1971 and 1990.
