International Adviser to Prime Minister Gowher Rizvi Saturday said lawmakers are above the law.
He made the comment at the launching ceremony of two books of former National Human Rights Commission chairman Mizanur Rahman at the Senate Bhaban in Dhaka University.
“Unfortunately, we are living in a society, in a culture where the essence of this culture of human rights is missing. We are living in a society where those who make laws are usually above the law. In other words, we have no concept of rule of law. We, our leaders, our intellectuals, those who are eminent persons, who formulate laws, create laws remain immune to laws,” he said.
About the treatment towards minorities, he said, “Our record for treating the minorities is far from satisfactory.”
