Khaleda Zia (File Photo)A counsel for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has demanded to take the former prime minister to any specialised hospital for treatment within 24 hours.
Zoynul Abedin, a member of Khaleda’s legal team, claimed his client’s physical condition has deteriorated due to lack of proper treatment.
“Let her be admitted to any private specialised medical facility, be it United Hospital or Apollo Hospital. Treat her first then try her,” Abedin said on Friday (Sept 7) after meeting Khaleda in prison.
Earlier in the day, Abedin, the president of Supreme Court Bar Association, along with three other lawyers met Khaleda inside to in the Old Central Jail at Dhaka’s Nazimuddin Road.
They entered at 5pm and emerged an hour later.
Zoynul told the media, “It’s clear that her physical condition does not allow her to move, let alone attend court hearings.
“She (Khaleda) can’t move her left hand and left leg. Her left side has been fully paralyzed,” Zoynul said.
The other lawyers were Abdur Rezzak Khan, former attorney general AJ Mohammad Ali and Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar.
Khaleda, a former prime minister, has been in the jail since a special court sentenced her to five years in prison after convicting her in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on Feb 8 this year.
