Jamaat-e-Islami has described the trial of BNP chief Khaleda Zia in a court set up inside the premises of Old Jailhouse in the capital’s Nazimuddin Road as ‘clear violation of the Constitution.’
In a statement issued on Wednesday, its chief Maqbool Ahmad said “According to Section 35 (3) of the Bangladesh Constitution, trials of cases like this must be held in public. There’s no scope for in camera trials.”
Expressing deep concern at the trial proceeding against a former premier and 20-party Alliance chief Khaleda Zia inside a jailhouse court, he said, “This step of the government is unjust, uncalled for and entirely against human rights”
“No political leader can be tried in a court set up inside jail. This is clear violation of the Constitution,” he added.
