Police’s one-month drive to discipline roads starts TuesdayPolice will begin a month-long special drive across the country on Tuesday (Sept 4) to bring disciplines in the runaway transport sector.
The law-enforcers will launch the campaign with students, scouts and girl guides will volunteer to raise awareness on road safety among the people from all walks of life.
It’s the second time police initiated such drive in less than a month after observing a traffic week in early August in the wake of a student movement for safer roads.
Speaking to Bangla Tribune, Police Headquarters AIG (traffic management department) Mosarrof Hossain Miazi said, “Most of the road crashes on the highways occurred between heavy and light vehicles with 25 percent accidents account for traffic rule violations.”
“So, police are taking stern actions to stop the movement of light vehicles on the highways,” said Miazi.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia is set address the media on the citywide drive on Tuesday (Sept 4), DMP Deputy Commissioner (media and public relation) Masudur Rahman told Bangla Tribune.
DMP Traffic Department Joint Commissioner Mosleh Uddin, however, said awareness on following traffic rules has risen in the city dwellers as police are strongly enforcing the laws.
Requesting all to follow traffic rules, Mosleh Uddin said, “Police are working at 40 outposts across Dhaka city and another month-long operation will start on Sept 4.”
“Police will go tough against anybody to enforce the traffic rules and regulation,” he warned.
