‘Dhaka waste-free in 24 hours’

Mayor Sayeed Khokon briefing about waste management following Eid-ul-Azha Eid cattle waste has been removed from Dhaka within 24 hours, city authorities say.

Dhaka North City Corportation’s (DNCC) Panel Mayor Jamal Mostofa said at a media call on Thursday that they managed to finish cleaning waste within the targeted 24 hours timeframe.

He said, “9500 cleaners including DNCC’s 2700 worked round the clock to make Dhaka clean in a short period of time clearing 8500 tonnes of waste.”

DNCC press conferenceDhaka South City Corporation’s (DSCC) told media that they are almost done cleaning their half of the Capital. Cleaners will be on duty until Friday, the third day for Qurbani, he added.

Mayor Khokon said, “DSCC has removed 15000 metric tonnes of waste so far that amounts to 90 percent of the waste.”

“In many places of old Dhaka is people are doing their Qurbani today. Sacrificial ritual will take place tomorrow as well. Therefore, we will be able to present the city dwellers a clean Dhaka tomorrow,” the mayor added.

Khokon also said, “We allocated place for animal slaughtering but city residents didn’t respond as expected.”

He hoped that, people of Dhaka will become aware about it.
