The High Court has set Oct 7 for its decision on an appeal against Awami League leader and cabinet member Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya’s conviction for graft.
The court scheduled the verdict delivery on Tuesday after concluding a fresh hearing of the petition challenging the trial court’s verdict.
In 2007, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) charged Maya, now the relief and disaster management minister, with acquiring illegal properties worth nearly Tk 3 million.
The next year a special court sentenced him to the 13 years in jail and slapped a fine of Tk 50 million. It also ordered confiscating of his property worth around Tk 60 million.
Maya challenged the verdict in High Court and in 2010, his prison term was scrapped.
But the ACC moved the Appellate Division, which ordered a fresh hearing of Maya’s appeal in High Court.
