The Ministry of Labour and Employment has instructed all Eid bonuses for garments workers to be cleared out by Aug 16.
The announcement was made on Thursday following a meeting of the Crisis Management Core Committee at the ministry.
After the meeting, State Minister for Labour Mujibul Haque said, “The workers will get gradual Eid leave so that there is no traffic pressure.”
Director General of Industrial Police Abdus Salam said, “There is no scope of any anarchy or disorder in the garments sector before Eid Ul Azha.”
However, he cautioned that there might be some payment related issues in 26 factories in Dhaka and it can be easily solved through the help of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
Vice President of the association Abdul Mannan Kochi said, “This is not a big issue. It can easily be resolved through negotiation.”
It was informed at the meeting Ashulia’s Badhon Corporation and Korean factory Yang Jung Fashion have been facing problems related to salary and bonus for the last one year and it is yet to be resolved.
Labour Secretary Afroza Khan, and labour leaders Ray Ramesh, Nipa Ferdous and Shirajul Islam Roni were also present at the meeting.
