Police dispersed a student rally which was heading towards Zigatola from Shahbagh and Science Laboratory. The incident happened at 12:45 noon on Sunday. Around five thousand students of Dhaka University’s commerce and science faculty were heading towards Zigatola when they were chased by the police near Rifle Square.
Around 25 blank shots were fired and tear gas shells exploded by the police to which the students responded with brickbats.
During the confrontation, 5-7 persons were injured, all students of Dhaka University. Today, the students demanded resignation of shipping minister, safe roads and protested Saturday’s attack on college students.
A large number of BGB and police have been deployed in Zigatola. Around 2pm, Chhatra League activists took position near Dhaka College and chased out the media personnel stationed there.
Journalists also left the area after the attack by Chhatra League.
