Counting of votes has begun as the by-elections to Dhaka-10, Gaibandha-3 and Bagerhat-4 ended at 5pm on Saturday (Mar 21).
The voting began at 9am and continued till 5pm without any break.
The Election Commission (EC) used Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in Dhaka-10 constituency, while ballot papers were used in other two constituencies. The commission provided hand sanitizers to every voting center aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus.
A total of six candidates are contesting in the Dhaka-10 by-polls. Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin is contesting the polls from Awami League while Sheikh Rabiul Alam from BNP. Other candidates are – Haji Md Shahjahan from Jatiya Party, Nawab Khaza Ali Ahsan Askari from Bangladesh Muslim League, Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury from Bangladesh Congress and Abdur Rahim from PDP.
There are a total of 3,12,281 electorates in Dhaka-10 constituency while the number of polling centers is 117 with 776 booths.
