Claiming diplomatic talks with Myanmar for Rohingya repatriation is still ongoing, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan says that he hopes the neighbouring country will take back the Rohingyas someday.
“The discussion with Myanmar to take back the Rohingyas hasn’t stopped, it’s is still running,” he told the media after a programme at Coast Guard headquarters in Dhaka on Saturday (Feb 15).
The minister ruled out the allegation of weakened monitoring on the Rohingyas made in a media query.
“All forces including police, Rapid Action Battalion, Border Guard Bangladesh and Ansar are on duty to look over them,” he argued.
Mentioning the installation of watchtowers and CCTV cameras to strengthen the surveillance on the camps, he said, “All forces are ready to restrain any Rohingyas from exiting camps.”
He also mentioned the prime minister’s directive to build barbed wire fence surrounding Rohingya camp and disclosed that Bangladesh Army was put in charge to execute the project.
“Our army has initiated the construction [of the fence]. The decision was made to bar Rohingyas from mixing into the local community,” he said.
