Feb 3, 1972: Bangabandhu tells govt officials to work diligently

In an order issued on Feb 3, 1972, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman warned all government officials saying that punitive measures will be taken against anyone found to be neglecting duties.
He also hinted to sudden visits to government offices to check on workers.
On this day, a collection of works by Gandhi was given to Bangabandhu by the Gandhi Peace Council.
On this day, the search was on to find missing film maker Zahir Raihan who had gone to Bihari occupied area of Mirpur to look for his elder brother. Bangabandhu gave necessary orders to find Zahir Raihan.
President Abu Syeed Chowdhury said: “Bangabandhu has told me that all efforts are being taken to find Zahir Raihan.”
Reportedly, the wife of Shahidullah Kaiser, the elder brother of Zahir Raihan who was believed to have been held captive by Biharis, received mysterious phone calls in which threats of annihilation was made.
Decision was taken to re-structure the administration of 50 districts.
Head of UN relief Tony Hagen, said: The report of relief in Bangladesh will be assessed at a special UN summit on Bangladesh.
Those who were removed from government jobs between Mar 25 and Dec 16 were given the right to appeal to the prime minister, said a government order.
