Even the supporters of the ruling Awami League (AL) didn’t turn up to cast their votes, said Election Commission Secretary Md Alamgir.
He made the remarks during a media call at the Commission offices in Dhaka’s Agargaon on Sunday (Feb 2).
“We don’t think it’s about lack of faith. It’s not like the ruling party voters lack faith in them,” he said.
He said people most likely didn’t turn up to vote as they were enjoying a holiday amongst other things.
He said that the observers will most likely have advice on how to increase voter turnout and the Commission will take those into consideration.
