Bangladesh suspends on-arrival visa for China

REUTERS/FILE PHOTOThe government has suspended on-arrival visa facilities for Chinese nationals coming into Bangladesh amid the coronavirus outbreak there.
The decision is among the few taken by the Bangladesh government to regulate the travel of citizens to Bangladesh, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said in a media call ahead of the prime minister’s Italy visit on Sunday (Feb 2).
“We have decided that those Chinese nationals who are employed here should not go to China at the moment,” he said.
He added that anyone coming from China will need a medical certificate attached to their visas.
The minister said that trade ties between China and Bangladesh will remain unaffected by the travel regulations.

On Saturday (Feb 1), the government brought back 312 Bangladeshis- 197 adults, 12 children and 3 infants from China's coronavirus epicentre Wuhan.

Seven out of the 14 have been hospitalised and those kept in the quarantine facility at Ashkona Hajj Camp will be kept under observation for 14 days.
The special flight with 15 crew members and four physicians departed for Wuhan on Friday (Jan 31) at 6 pm.
The World Health Organization declared a global emergency over the new coronavirus, as China reported Sunday the death toll had climbed to 304with nearly 14,000 infections.
