The government will ask the foreign diplomats to leave the country if they fail to follow the ‘code of conduct’ during the Dhaka City polls, slated for Saturday (Feb 1)
“We hope that the diplomats will maintain the their code of conducts... Otherwise, we will ask them to leave,” Foreign Minister Abdul Momen said on Thursday (Jan 30).
Momen was speaking to media after attending the closing ceremony the Bangladesh Development Forum in Dhaka.
Referring to meeting at the UK mission office in the capital, Momen said, “It is saddening that that foreign missions interfere enough with our internal matters."
The foreign diplomats should mind their own business, the minister insisted.
Responding to a query on foreign diplomats' movements during the polls, Momen said the matter is under Election Commission's jurisdiction.
"They [EC] will deal it, not the foreign ministry," he added.
