Her remarks came at parliament on Wednesday (Jan 29) while responding to a question by Jatiya Party MP Mashiur Rahman Ranga.
The opposition MP claimed that Dhaka's Motijheel Ideal School and College has barred female students from wearing scarves.
Hasina replied: "An inquiry by the education ministry found the allegations to be not true. The [school's] governing body has not taken any decision prohibiting girls from wearing scarves."
Bangladesh is an independent, sovereign and secular state, she said before adding that her administration was working to uphold the sentiments of all religions.
BNP MP Harun-ur-Rashid urged the prime minister to travel in Dhaka without any protocol to get an idea how it residents live in the city.
Hasina said the protocol was linked to security issues.
"But it's not that I am not aware of the city or the country. I keep an eye on everything, since I am responsible for the country it's my duty. But then again there are criticisms like, 'Why the prime minister has to do everything?'," she added.
The number of Bangladeshi workers across the globe is increasing due the government's diplomatic initiatives focusing labour markets, the prime minister in response to ruling MP Morshed Alam's query.
"Between 700,000 and 800,000 Bangladeshis are leaving the country as migrant workers every year. Over 6.33 million people have secured jobs abroad from 2009 to 2019, which resulted in a remittance inflow of $153.13 billion during the same period," said Hasina.
