There is a fear within the BJP that the month long protests in India over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will compel Bangladesh to tilt towards China.

Many in the party are openly voicing their fears and are openly talking on the matter. Former editor Organiser, an RSS spokesperson, Sheshadri Chari has written an article on the matter.
He wrote: “The negative campaign over the CAA issue may also persuade anti establishment institutions in Bangladesh to carry our false campaigns. As a result, an exodus may be triggered to Bangladesh and the rumour mills may shatter the entente cordiale between the two states developed over years of effort.”
In an interview given to Gulf News of the Middle East, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is believed to have said: “I do not know why this law was introduced; this was not needed.”
BJP also feared a reaction from the top echelon of Bangladesh. It’s found that there is talk within the BJP to find ways of dealing the sensitive matter with Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
Reportedly, BJP’s head of foreign affairs, Dr Vijay Chauthaiwale, had meetings with party leaders on the matter. One BJP leader commented: “What is beneficial for internal politics may have the opposite impact in diplomacy and we are seeing such an impact.”
That is why on one side, BJP president in West Bengal is threatening to send back one crore illegal Bangladeshis while foreign minister S Jayshankar is saying that NRC is an internal matter.
BJP leader Sheshadri Chari said in his article: “In 1971, China did not look at the emergence of Bangladesh favourably but today they are the investing in the country; providing naval assistance with total investment crossing $38 billion, eclipsing USA.”
BJP leader Sheshadri ChariAs per Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) the top post for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is occupied by China.
The article further adds that most of Chinese investment is in power which is not good news for India who is also desperate to increase investment in Bangladesh. But NRC issue has increased uneasiness between the two countries the article added.
