More than 100,000 children are getting education at the 33,000 Qawmi madrasas in the country. It’s believed that more than 100,000 children are getting education at the 33,000 Qawmi madrasas in the country. The scholars of the Qawmi madrasas feel that while Daorae Hadis was given recognition similar to Masters, primary level education also needs to be recognized.
Several sources at the ministry of education say that there are some impediments to recognizing primary education of the Qawmi. Firstly, the matter was not raised and secondly, there is question if the madrasas will want recognition.
Some officials say that the matter for recognition is political and Daorae Hadis was given recognition from a political angle.
Moulana Mahfuzul HuqMoulana Mahfuzul Huq of the Qawmi Education Board, called for the primary education to be seen as a national system.
When Daorae Hadis was made equivalent to Masters, Nurul Islam Nahid, was the minister. He says: “The scholars at Qawmi wanted the recognition and we provided it and the books plus food at the primary level are also given by the government but the madrasa authority never spoke about recognition at the primary level.”
Some officials of the ministry of mass education feel that whether the primary education of Qawmi madrasa will be made equivalent to the standard primary level education is a political matter.
Speaking on the matter, secretary for primary and mass education, Akram Al Hossain, says: “All issues of the madrasa board fall under the jurisdiction of the ministry of education; the matter is looked after by the ministry’s technical and madrasa divisions.”
