The online registration to participate in the central countdown to the year-long celebrations of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary is set to get under way on Monday (Jan 6).
Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, chief coordinator of Bangabandhu's Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee, made the statement at a media briefing at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka on Sunday (Jan 5).
The countdown to the year-long celebrations of Bangabandhu’s birth centennial will start at the National Parade Ground of Tejgaon from 5pm on Jan 10.
"Anyone interested in participating in the central countdown program will be able to register for it from 3pm at the website: Event.mujib100.gov.bd. It will continue till Dec 7. As the seats are limited, the registration process will follow a “first come first served basis,” Kamal Naser Chowdhury added.
He also said, around 12,000 people will be able to participate in the program through online registration. Around 2,000 invited guests are also expected to participate in the show.
Professor Rafiqul Islam, chairman of the national implementation committee, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Shah Ali Farhad were also present during the briefing.
Responding to a question Kamal Naser Chowdhury said our objective was to re-create an ambience of history similar to that of the old Dhaka airport in Tejgaon on Jan 10, 1972.
The day is significant because it coincides with the beginning of a period of waiting, or countdown for Bangabandhu's centennial celebration, while it marks the anniversary of Bangabandhu’s homecoming - his release from Pakistan, and return to an independent Bangladesh in 1972.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to launch the countdown in Dhaka and across Bangladesh – at every upazila in every district, and in all public places.
