The countdown for the birthday of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will begin from 10 January. The preparations from different ministries on this occasion will be coordinated by the cabinet.
Led by prime minister Sheikh Hasina, a national committee has been formed with another national implementation committee led by professor Rafiqul Islam.
After meticulous assessment of the proposals, a final plan has been adopted. To make the Mujib year successful, 8 sub-committees are working.
Cabinet sources say that the centenary birthday of Bangabandhu will be held at the national parade square. The PM, president and foreign guests will be present and the programme will be held on 17 March next. Form that day, the year-long programmes will be held running till 17 March, 2021.
On that day, the national flag will be hoisted over all government and private buildings. The cabinet will give directives to the ministry of liberation war affairs in organising 26 March.
They will also arrange national mourning day on 15 August. An international award will be launched in the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The concluding ceremony of the birth centenary will be held at the Suhrawardy Udyan or the south plaza of the national parliament.
The cabinet will also give support in printing a memorial book in English and Bangla.
Cabinet secretary Khondokar Anwarul Islam, said: the programme will be year-long and the cabinet will be linked to it in different forms.
A 102 member national committee has been formed to celebrate the 100 year birth centenary of Bangabandhi led by prime-minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born on 17 March, 1920 in Tungipara, Gopalganj. The PM had earlier said that the birthday celebration will include people from all layers of society.
