The construction of tracks and set up of power lines to the metro rail project has been inaugurated.
“Eight-and-half kilometers of the metro rail is now visible,” Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said after the opening ceremony in Dhaka’s Uttara on Wednesday (Jan 1).
He added that the first phase of the mega project is likely to be complete by 2021.
He said that work for the Metrorail’s MRT line-1 will begin soon. “There are two underground railway systems there. One is 16 and the other is 13 kilometre.”
A spot visit to Uttara’s Diabari showed that work for the fastening system and sound-controlling pads have been completed.
Construction of the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development project started in 2012. The 20-kilometre metro rail will go through Mirpur to Agargaon from Uttara.
