New textbooks for students on the first day of New Year

FILE PHOTOThe ‘National Textbook Festival’ will be celebrated across Bangladesh on Wednesday (Jan 1) to hand over the new textbooks to the students in primary and secondary levels on the first day of the New Year 2020.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the textbook distribution by handing over the Class I books to a group of students at a programme at her official residence Ganabhaban in Dhaka on Tuesday (Dec 31).
According to sources at National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), this year over 353 million free textbooks will be distributed among 43 million students in primary and secondary levels across the country.
Of which, 105 million textbooks will be distributed among the pre-primary and primary level students and nearly 248 million books will be given to the secondary level students.
Besides, Education Minister Dipu Moni will open the textbooks festival of the secondary level at Adhar Chandra Government High School in Savar on Wednesday while State Minister for Primary and Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossen will attend another programme on Dhaka University's central playground.
"Textbooks have already arrived in the grassroots [to celebrate the festival]," NTCB Chairman Prof Narayan Chandra Saha told Bangla Tribune.
