Establishing democracy and good governance are two of the challenges for the upcoming year, said senior Cabinet member Obaidul Quader.
“Some mistakes were made this year. We have to take the lessons and move forward,” he told media during a discussion meeting on Tuesday (Dec 31).
“Democracy and good governance will advance further next year,” the road transport and bridges minister said.
He added that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed to ensure free, fair and neutral Dhaka city polls slated for Jan 30.
“The ruling party is ready to accept the result of the polls, whatever the outcomes will be,” Quader said before adding the government wants to present the people with a proper election.
Responding to queries on the BNP’s concern over Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), Quader criticized the party saying, BNP surrenders even before the polls.
There is no reason for concerns regarding EVMs as the machines can’t be tempered with, he said.
Quader has also assured withdrawing party backing for controversial councillor aspirants.
