Election Commission (EC) will take responsibility for the safety of voters in the elections to the Dhaka South and North city corporations, says Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda.
“The voters will exercise their franchises and return home safe and sound. The election will be fair and competitive,” he told media while announcing the polls schedule on Sunday (Dec 22) at EC headquarters.
The commission has set Jan 30 for the voting with the deadline for filing nominations set at Dec 31.
Officials will verify the nomination documents on Jan 2 and the last day to pull out from the race has been fixed Jan 9.
Responding to a query, CEC Huda said, “Army will not be deployed in the election. However, two armed force members will be assigned to each centres to assist operations of electronic voting machines.”
