Bangabandhu worked to change people's fate: Hasina

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addresses the inauguration of the AL’s 21st National Council at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on Friday (Dec 20). BSSBangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had worked to change the fate of helpless people, says Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
"The people of this country were below the poverty line. They did not have food to eat, were homeless and had no educational system. They were exploited and deprived. The sole purpose of the Father of the Nation was to improve their condition. He made the country independent, and people also responded to his call for independence," she said on Friday (Dec 20).
The Prime Minister was addressing the 21st National Council of Awami League (AL) at the Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka.
Hasina has said the party was formed to put a smile on the faces of the people of Bengal.
“Whenever AL came in power, it has given something to people. Bangabandhu has worked to change the fate of the country's helpless people," she added.
The prime minister said, "I respect those who established the AL. AL was born with an aim to ensure human rights.”
She added that the party was not established by those holding power, but by the masses.
Hasina inaugurated the council held at Suhrawardy Udyan around 3pm by hoisting the national flag.
At the same time, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader also hoisted the party flag, while the national anthem was being played.
