Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has underscored fund highway maintenance and repair from tolls as what he said pouring "enormous funds for it were not possible".
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed to impose tolls for using all the highways,” the minister said while he was addressing to a seminar on ‘Lifetime challenge in the Highways sector and our duty’ at capital’s National Economic Council (NEC) on Thursday (Dec 19).
“Prepaid meters will have to be installed in every vehicle. Tolls will be paid automatically after passing a certain distance,” said Kamal.
“The automation will lessen traffic queue at toll plazas,” he added.
“Contractors delay in projects due to taking several jobs. Contracting a company repetitively should be avoided,” Minister Kamal said after emphasising on taking projects as per financial and implementation capability.
