Eleven contemporary Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan artists will gather at a unique outdoor art camp to deepen people to people connectivity among the two peoples.
The two-day camp will be held in the ancient Wesagiriya Garden in Anuradhapura from Wednesday and Thursday on the theme “Art for Peace and Harmony”.
Six promising contemporary Bangladeshi artists Bishwajit, Ariffa, Iqbal, Kuntal, Saurav and Mong Sho and contemporary Lankan artists Abhisheki, Nisansala, Anuradha, Chamila, Chathuranga and Jagath Ravindra will paint in acrylic on canvass in the open.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Riaz Hamidullah said, “if one wishes to reach the heart of people in another land, he can best reach through art and culture.
It also fits into our endeavour to popularize Bangladesh’s rich art and heritage. We chose this Victory Day to bring some of the fine Bangladeshi artists in a collaborative art exhibition that began on Monday (Dec 16) in Colombo where many Ambassadors and local politicians and Art critics attended", he said.
He further informed that, for the first time in our history, the Lankan national TV network screened the award-winning Bangladeshi film Matir Projar Deshe, with Singhalese subtitle, on Sunday primetime slot to mark our Victory Day in Sri Lanka, the envoy said. Lacs of Sri Lankans watched and many applauded the film for the cinematic quality from Bangladesh.
