BSS/FILE PHOTOFour commissioners have criticised the Chief Election Commissioner, CEC, senior secretary of the commission secretariat, raising questions over the authority of his office. The disgruntled commissioners said that if their complaints were not addressed they would quit.
As the four officials expressed their views, CEC KM Nurul Huda was silent but said later that he would have a separate meeting on the matter with the commissioners.
The commissioners are: Brigadier General (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury, Kabita Khanam, Md. Rafiqul Islam and Mahbub Talukdar.
They expressed discontent over alleged irregularities in the appointment of 339 officials of the EC.
Reportedly, they also expressed dissatisfaction over the response of a mid-level official to the UO or unofficial note.
There are also issues about transparency in the appointment of lower grade officials with aberrations reported in selecting people for security guards.
One commissioner said that by sidelining the proper appointment guideline, election commissioners were belittled which is not acceptable.
“If the image of the EC is sullied then all work of the commission will be questioned.
It’s the desire of all that the commission will be run as per guideline and by fostering amicable relation among all,' said the commissioner.
