Cold wave likely to sweep over country in late-Dec

The northern, southern and south-western parts of the country would experience more cold waves during this period with no significant fall in temperature in Dhaka.

Meteorologists forecast cold waves to sweep through Bangladesh in late-December when the mercury is likely to dips as low as six degrees Celsius.
In Bangladesh, winter season lasts from December to February with the northern region and river basins usually experience moderate or dense fog, and mild to moderate fog overnight in other regions throughout the country.
"One or two cold waves will hit the country in the last week of December. But it won't be a severe," Meteorologists Arif Hossain told Bangla Tribune.
The northern, southern and south-western parts of the country would experience more cold waves during this period with no significant fall in temperature in Dhaka.
"The mercury in Dhaka may not drop below 12 to 13 degrees Celsius," he added.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Metrology Department (BMD) forecasted a fall in temperature in the next 24 hours ending at 6pm on Friday (Dec 13).
On Thursday (Dec 12), the lowest temperature - 11.3 degrees Celsius - in the country was recorded at Pannchaganr's Tentulia but in Dhaka, the mercury did not drop below 16.3 degrees Celsius.
The Met office also predicted light rain or drizzle may hit at one or two places in Rangpur division.
The ridge of Sub-continental high extends up to India's Bihar and its adjoining area while a seasonal low lies over South Bay, extending its trough to North Bay, said a BMD weather bulletin on Thursday.
The weather may remain mainly dry with the temporary partly cloudy sky over the country, it read.
Light to moderate fog may occur at places over the country till Friday morning, it added.
