The government has slashed the price of non-urea fertiliser, diammonium phosphate (DAP), to Tk 16 from Tk 25 per kg in a bid to reduce the cost of farming.
Agriculture Minister Md Abdur Razzaque made the announcement during a media call at his offices on Wednesday (Dec 4).
The move will cost the government Tk 8 billion in subsidies in the ongoing fiscal year, according to Minister Razzaque.
“The government has reduced the price of the DAP fertiliser by Tk 9 at all levels,” he said.
In 2014, the government fixed the price of the DAP fertiliser Tk 25 for the farmer-level and Tk 23 for the dealer-level.
With the new move coming in effect, farmers can be able to buy DAP at Tk 16 while dealers at Tk 14.
DAP is the world's most widely used phosphorus fertiliser.
