Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressing COP25 at Madrid in Spain. FOCUS BANGLAPrime Minister Sheikh Hasina has agreed to take over the chair of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) in 2020.
“The honourable prime minister has accepted a proposal of current CVF chair Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine, in this regard on the opening day of the 25th Annual Conference of Parties (COP25),” said Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen.
He disclosed the matter on Tuesday (Dec 3) at Madrid in Spain, while briefing reporters after the first day of the conference, reports state news agency BSS.
“I’m ready to take over the charge of the chair of the CVF if everybody endorses this,” the foreign minister quoted the premier as saying.
The CVF was founded by the Maldives government before the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, which sought to increase awareness of countries considered vulnerable.
The forum addresses the negative effects of global warming as a result of heightened socioeconomic and environmental vulnerabilities.
