The Election Commission (EC) has fixed Jan 13 for the by-election to the Chattogram-8 parliamentary constituency.
The EC announced the election schedule on Sunday (Dec 1) for the seat vacated by the death of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal leader Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal last month.
According to the schedule, election candidates have until Dec 12 to submit their nomination papers to the returning officer. The scrutiny of nominations will end on Dec 15 while the last date for withdrawing candidature is Dec 22.
The total number of voters in the seat is 475,996. Among them, 241,922 are male voters while 234,074 are female voters.
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used to cast ballots at the election, the Commission said.
On Nov 7, the veteran politician and Freedom Fighter Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal died while undergoing treatment at the Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences (NICS) at Bangalore in India.
