The government will probe how a death-row convict in the Gulshan cafe attack came out of court wearing a cap with the Islamic State (IS) insignia, said Law Minister Anisul Huq.
He made the remarks on Wednesday (Nov 27) while briefing the media on the verdict of the terror attack in Holey Artisan Bakery three-and-half years ago.
Earlier, a special tribunal sentenced seven people to death and acquitted another over the attack that left 22 people dead including 17 foreigners and two police officers.
“We are satisfied with the verdict. The death-reference paper book will be prepared within the next seven days and sent to the High Court,” he said.
The minister added that through this verdict it has been proven that justice is served swiftly in Bangladesh if a crime is committed.
Earlier in the day, death-row convict Rakibul Hasan Regan came out of court after the verdict donning the IS cap sparking criticisms about the jail authorities.
