PM receives two ITU Telecom World awards

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar along with the ministry’s Secretary Ashoke Kumar Biswas hands over the awards to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the outset of cabinet’s meeting held at the prime minister’s office in Dhaka on Monday (Nov 25). Focus BanglaPrime Minister Sheikh Hasina received two ITU Telecom World 2019 awards in recognition of Bangladesh’s success in telecommunication sector and digitisation on Monday (Nov 25).
The awards are, “The ITU Telecom World Awards 2019 Certificate of Appreciation” and “The ITU Telecom World Awards 2019 Recognition of Excellence”.
Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar along with the ministry’s Secretary Ashoke Kumar Biswas handed over the awards to the prime minister at the outset of cabinet’s meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), reports BSS.
The two awards were handed over to Bangladesh at the ITU Telecom World 2019 held in the Hungarian capital of Budapest on Sept 9-12.
The ITU Telecom World Awards 2019 Certificate of Appreciation was given to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) for the country’s active participation in the ITU Telecom World 2019 and showcasing the progress of Digital Bangladesh by setting up a Bangladesh pavilion at the event.
Central Biometric Verification Monitoring Platform (CBVMP), the successful initiative to build Digital Bangladesh, received “The ITU Telecom World Awards 2019 Recognition of Excellence” as the best innovation in the ITU Telecom World 2019.
Thanks to use of the CBVMP platform, it is possible to properly verify the registration of every SIM card, NID card, personal information and photograph. As a result, committing crimes in these fields has declined to a great extent.
ITU Telecom World is the global platform for governments, corporates and tech SMEs to accelerate ICT innovation for economic growth and social good.
It is part of the ITU (International Telecommunication Union), the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies – ICTs.
The prime minister in the cabinet’s meeting also unveiled the cover of “Standing Orders on Disaster (SOD)-2019.”
The SOD-2019 was amended under the initiative of Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief as per a decision of National Disaster Management Council meeting held on Apr 18, 2019 with the prime minister in the chair.
The premier at the cabinet meeting yesterday also unwrapped the cover of a book titled “Chhotoder Bangabandhu” authored by State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossain.
The state minister wrote the book on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s early days of life and his contributions to the Bangalee nation.
