Few sections of the Road Transport Act need to be clarified and hence the law enforcers have been ordered to remain lenient regarding nine of them, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan.
“Law enforcers have been asked to be considerate regarding certain issues of the nine sections,” he said on Saturday (Nov 23) after a meeting with Bangladesh Transport Workers Federation leaders.
Saying that few of the federation’s demands regarding fitness and licences are valid, he added that the law enforcers won’t take action in this regard till Jun 30.
The minister said, while these matters will be handled with leniency, parking in the middle of the street and causing traffic congestion won’t be condoned.
He said that drivers will get up to Jun 30 to bring their liscences up-to-date but those with fake liscences won’t be spared.
On the fitness of vehicles, he said, “Our vehicle owners have brought modification to the original model. A BRTA [Bangladesh Road Transport Association] committee will be formed and decision will be taken on their recommendation.”
Responding to queries on whether amendments will be made, he said that the recommendations will be forwarded to the road transport ministry where a decision will be taken in the regard.
