Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the government will not allow any industrial factories by destroying agricultural lands.
He remarks came in Wednesday (Nov 6) while speaking at Awami League’s affiliate body Krishak League’s 10th national council at Shurawardy Uddyan.
“We are setting up 100 industrial regions so that agricultural land isn’t destroyed. Those who want to build industries will be given plots in those regions,” she said.
She added that industrialisation and development will happen but not without the farmers.
Emphasising on the contributions of the farmers, Hasina said, “Bangladesh is highly dependent on agriculture. The farmers keep the country alive.”
She said that there was a time when the farmers didn’t have food on the plate despite the harvest. “We are working to preserve the rights of the farmers.”
The premiers also emphasised on the importance of research for the development of the agricultural sector.
“We are now self-sustaining in the food sector,” she said before adding that Bangladesh stands fourth in food production in the world.
