Bangladesh has started the process to register its citizens abroad as voters.
On Tuesday (Nov 5), Chief Election Commission (CEC) KM Nurul Huda kicked off the registration for expatriates in Malaysia through video-conferencing from the Election Commission offices in capital Dhaka.
Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed joined him from Malaysia.
Addressing the inauguration, CEC Huda said that around nine million Bangladeshi expatriates across the world are yet to get National Identity (NID) cards.
Warning about the NID frauds and intermediaries, he advised to expatriates to register themselves online.
Expatriates can register as voter at services.nidw.gov.bd, then EC officials will visit them to receive their fingerprints and iris scans. At first, the expatriates from UK, Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia are going to enjoy the facility. Afterwards, the EC will extend the programme to other countries.
