DMP commissioner Shafiqul Islam has said that implementation of road transport law 2018 will begin with minimum fines.
The commissioner made the comment on Monday (Nov 4), during a media briefing on the implementation of road laws.
“If someone breaks the law for the first time then that person will be handed a small fine plus a leaflet to give the offender the relevant information about road rules and of bigger penalties for recurrence of the offence,” said DMP chief Shafiqul Islam.
Saying that the law has been implemented from Nov 1 through passing of the gazette, he observed: “800 DMP officials have been trained on the new laws and there’s also a book available in the market on the rules.”
Alluding to Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, he said: “There won’t be any new cases under the new law this week but from the next, cases will be given after the server is updated.”
One of the features of the new traffic law is the rise of punishments which will inspire people to adhere to traffic laws, he observed.
