The government will increase diplomatic efforts in order to extradite the killers of the four national leaders, said senior Cabinet member Obaidul Quader.
His remarks came on Sunday (Nov 3) after paying tribute to the image of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi marking the Jail Killing Day.
“Those convicts whose sentences are yet to be executed are on the run,” he said before adding that the government was trying to extradite them diplomatically.
“The problem is the law in some countries which don’t have provisions for death penalty. Since they are death-row convicts, it’s a bit difficult to extradite them,” the ruling party general secretary said.
“Aug 15 and Nov 3 are continuation of the same conspiracy. The four national leaders were mercilessly killed after Bangabandhu’s assassination to wipe out Awami League,” he added.
