The government has taken an initiative to commence an automated border control system in a bid to boost up border security management.
The automation system is expected to introduce in Bangladesh by the end of this year or early next year.
A total of 50 e-gates will be installed at the immigration check-posts under the project titled ‘Introduction of e-Passport and Automated Border Control Management in Bangladesh’.
This was disclosed by speakers at an agreement signing event of the project held at the capital’s Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Thursday.
Director General of Immigration and Passports Department Maj Gen Md Masud Rezwan said, “Passport reader and camera will swiftly verify a passenger through facial recognition and e-passport chip at the e-gates.”
The e-gate will automatically open after the verification, he added.
Bangladesh and Germany on Thursday signed a government-to-government agreement on e-passport following the government’s vision to embark on the digital era for the country.
Veridos Company of Germany has been appointed to execute the project.
