'Traffic law awareness should start from school'

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has emphasised on awareness of traffic laws starting from school-level in order to avoid road accidents.

“Students should know which sides of the roads to walk on,” she said while inaugurating several development projects under the road transport and bridges division through video conference at her official residence Ganobhaban on Wednesday (Oct 16).

She stressed the need of every school in the country introducing traffic rules and regulations in their curriculum.

“We talk about road safety, draft laws for it. But the people in our country must be aware too,” she said and added that they should be careful while crossing the road.

“The drivers must be conscious too because unnecessary competition on the road is causes road accidents,” she said.

Referring to the law regarding road safety enacted by her government, she said that everyone should follow the traffic rules and regulations.

Hasina opened the Bhulta Flyover on Dhaka-Sylhet highway, Patia Bypass Road, Satkhira Town Bypass Road, Aldi Bazar Bridge, Banar Bridge on Mymensingh-Gafargaon-Toak district highway and replacement of 13 bridges with permanent construction through the video conference.
