GPA-dropsThe success rate and the number of GPA 5 scorers have declined in the Higher Secondary Certificates (HSC) and equivalent exams this year.

The rate dropped by 2.27 percentage point while GPA holders decreased by 8.464.

The information was disclosed by Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid.

He said, “This year 858,801 passed the exams and the pass rate is 66.64 percent. It was 68.91 percent last year.”

A total of 29,262 students got GPA 5 while it was 37,726 last year, he added.

Meanwhile, female students did better than the male ones in the exams.

In the 10 education boards, the pass rate of female students is 69.72% while for male it is 63.88%.

A total of 13, 11, 457 students sat for exams this year from eight education boards, and madrasa and technical boards. Out of them, 692,730 are male and 618,727 are female.

In the morning, the copies of the results of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams of 2018 have been handed over to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official Ganabhaban residence.

The education minister handed over the copies to the premier at 10am on Thursday.

This year’s exams were held between Apr 2 and May 23.

Besides, 299 examinees appeared in the seven foreign centres.
