Where is the BUET vice-chancellor?

Prof. Dr Saiful Islam, VC of BUETEven on the second day of the killing of BUET student Abrar Fahad, the Vice-Chancellor of the institute, Professor Dr Saiful Islam, is absent. Students have expressed their indignation over the matter. Demanding death sentence for the killers of Abrar, students brought out protest rallies on Tuesday (Oct 8).

They asked the VC to come to the campus by five pm and answer to questions. Students have said they will remain at the campus until the VC comes. During the day, between 11:30 am and 12 pm, the students were present at the Shaheed Minar and later brought our protest rallies.

The VC was not seen on the campus for the last two days and as per information, is not in the bungalow provided by the university.

Reportedly, he is in Lalbagh and could not be reached over the phone.

Abrar’s body was recovered on Sunday, 6 October, at around 3 am from the first floor of Sher e Bangla Hall and police said there is evidence that the student was beaten to death. Abrar was a second-year student of electrical engineering.

His father, Barkatullah, is an NGO worker, mother a school teacher while his younger brother is a student of Dhaka College.
