The current crackdown is against crime and not against any specific person or group, said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Qauder.
His remarks came on Tuesday (Oct 1) while briefing the media on at his secretariat office.
“Allegations of irregularities and graft in any sector will be probed, not just political figures,” he said.
He reiterated that no one will be spared and those who were being arrested were being held on specific allegations.
Responding to queries on how many people have been arrested, he said, “I don’t have the list but many are under surveillance.”
Saying that Awami League has started the cleansing drives from home, he added that those who have previously run the state and amassed illegal wealth will also be probed.
On Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat’s arrest, he said, “Action can’t be initiated without proof. Wait and see.”
The ruling party general secretary said that complaints of extortion and tender manipulation in the transport sector is also being probed and those responsible will be brought to book.
