Militant activity watchdog SITE Intelligence Group reports that the Middle East-based terror outfit Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for a bomb blast at Awami League office in Khulna on Monday (Sept 30).
The terror activity monitoring group disclosed the matter through a twitter post on Tuesday (Oct 1).
A blast went off at the ruling party’s Shiromoni office around 6.15pm on Monday. However, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Police says that from primary investigation it seems a crude bomb type device was detonated.
A person from the party office said that a middle aged man left a bag and when asked, said that it contained bananas.
The explosion happened soon after.
Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (north) Molla Jahangir Hossain says: “A person left a bag at the AL office at Shiromoni area in the evening and the explosion happened ten minutes later.”
