Govt establishing Bangabandhu centre, chair at acclaimed universities

There are also plans to introduce Bangabandhu prizes.
A process in this regard has begun at Cambridge in the UK, Windsor in Canada, Jagiellonian University in Poland and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand.

Sources at the foreign ministry have confirmed this. There is a desire among people of other countries to know about the political ideals, work and dedication of Bangabandhu.

A foreign ministry official says that already, a special chair has been launched at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and at the Jagiellonian University.

The government is in talks with UK’s Cambridge.

Ministry sources say that research work has already begun at AIR. Former professor Mahbubur Rahman, of Rajshahi University, has been sent to Jagiellonian University as chairman of the centre.

A teaching assistant has also been appointed at the Polish University to provide secretarial assistance.

The foreign ministry has already established a Bangabandhu Cambridge Innovation Lab in Dhaka, according to another official, who said: “At the first workshop, 30 persons took part and since it was successful. We are now about to set up a centre named after Bangabandhu at Cambridge.”

Initially, he explained, "We wanted to have a chair but later tilted towards setting up a Bangabandhu Centre; this will be done to allow many students to carry out research."

"We are also thinking of launching a Bangabandhu Leadership Award at Windsor University in Canada, said another official and commented: “The government is thinking of giving $2,000 to the selected student to carry out research on Bangabandhu.”
