India has expressed its deep appreciation on addressing its security concern by Bangladesh.
“New Delhi has recognised it and it was conveyed at the home minister level meeting,” said an official who attended the official talks between the Indian and Bangladesh home ministers.
Indian Minister Rajnath Singh arrived at Dhaka on Jul 13 on a three-day visit and attended the official talks with his Bangladeshi counterpart Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal Sunday.
“The meeting went on very well and the body language was very positive from the Indian side,” he said.
Earlier, after the meeting Singh said they had a productive meeting and there is no problem at the border.
Bangladesh Minister Kamal said they discussed about Rohingya issue and the Indian side assured of assisting Bangladesh.
The one-and-half hour meeting started at 10:30am, where Kamal led the Bangladesh side while Rajnath led the Indian side. The last Bangladesh-India home minister meeting was held in New Delhi in 2016.
Rajnath also paid a courtesy call on with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday.
The official said the Rohingya issue was not on the official agenda but both the minister had one-to-one meeting and it “must have been discussed there”.
“In diplomacy, many issues are resolved in one-to-one meeting,” he added.
Revised travel arrangement
Both the countries made a revision in the Revised Travel Arrangement (RTA) signed in 2001.
We made three changes in the RTA and those are students will get three-year multiple visa instead of two, freedom fighters and senior citizens aged above 65 years will get five-year multiple visa.
Flexibility of freedom fighters and senior citizens are in place for the last couple of years, but now those have been incorporated in the RTA, he said.
