The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to remove its secretary Md Khaled over graft allegations.
The decision to withdraw him and make an officer on special duty (OSD) came on Tuesday (Sept 24) at a meeting of the Commission, said UGC chief’s Senior Secretary Md Mostafizur Rahman.
According to people familiar with the matter, Khaled served as the secretary of the committee responsible for overseeing the recruitment of assistant directors for the commission without disclosing that his daughter was one of the aspirants.
The UGC opened an inquiry after the matter came to the light, which found Khaled of abusing his office.
Sources at the Commission said that it was agreed during Tuesday’s meeting that a two-member panel will be formed for a further investigation on allegations of Khaled abusing his office in the recruitment process.
