Official dengue death toll updated to 75

The Emergency Service and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said on Monday (Sept 23) that a total of 224 death cases were forwarded to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
Its death review committee confirmed seven deaths— three in April, six in June, 32 in July, 31 in August and four in September
In Bangladesh, dengue infection was first identified in 2000 when at least 93 people died and 5,551 were hospitalised
The mosquito-borne virus, spreads among humans through its carrier, the Aedes mosquito.
As many as 461 new dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country in the 24 hours till 8am on Monday (Sept 23).
Of them, 143 new patients were admitted in Dhaka and 318 in districts outside Dhaka.
The DGHS said in a statement that the number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals in the country was 2,018.
As many as 861 patients were currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 1,157 people were undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, it said.
Between Jan 1 and Sept 23, as many as 85,288 people have been affected by dengue.
Among those admitted, a total of 83,067 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
