Purging within the Awami League will continue until corruption, terrorism and drugs are uprooted, says its General Secretary Obaidul Quader.

His remarks came Monday (Sept 23) while talking to the media.

“The PM has specifically said before leaving for the US that the government will not be lenient about godfathers and depraved people, no matter how powerful that person is,” a Cabinet member, Quader told reporters at his office in the Secreteriat. 

In rooting out criminals, we are not taking into consideration what they had done for the party in the past; the arrest of Jubo League leaders is not tarnishing the party’s image, instead, it’s making us look better and firm, he added.

“We are doing what the BNP failed to do.”
